The “Best of Preps” High School Sports Awards Banquet honors student-athletes from 17 public and private schools in 19 different sports for their hard work and accomplishments on and off the playing field.
OnlineAthens/Athens Banner-Herald knows the importance of local high school sports. We have a long standing tradition of recognizing student-athletes across our community through daily coverage of their performance, dedication and achievements throughout the school year in both our print and digital products. The "Best of Preps" High School Sports Awards Banquet provides a unique opportunity to celebrate these high school student-athletes for their hard work on and off the playing field.
At the event, we recognize the outstanding Athens area youth that make up the Jackson EMC All Area Team. The Jackson EMC All Area Team is made up of the top athletes in each of the 19 different high school sports in These students come from all public and private schools in Clarke, Oconee, Barrow, Jackson, Madison and Oglethorpe counties.
One outstanding male and female athlete from this All Area Team will be named The Piedmont Athens Regional "Athlete of the Year”.

The Akins Arena's “Most Versatile Athlete of the Year”
"Comeback Player of the Year”
The Nakanishi "Unsung Hero of the Year"
"Community LEADer of the Year Award"
The MVP School of Sports "Freshman of the Year."
